These three words

This simple three-word phrase that loses its spontaneity and meaning after a few years together. Loving after one year, loving after 15 years—what does love become in the long run? Caught up in the whirlwind of work, housework, the baby, meals, and so on, I’ve forgotten how to love you.

For a moment, I thought love was gone because that little spark had hidden itself in a box in the closet. This morning, alone at home with a cup of coffee in hand, I realize that love isn’t just about that little spark. Love is a feeling that’s always inside us. Sometimes buried beneath the whirlwind of daily emotions, it still manages to peek through. In ordinary moments, like when you’re away and I can’t wait for you to come home from work so we can talk about our days. Or like when I watch you play with our little guy and you’re both laughing out loud. And especially when, in your own way, you take care of me.

I’m sorry for thinking for a second that love was defined solely by that spark. I was naive. I know now that the foundation of love is us! And if it really is the spark, I’m ready to put on my detective glasses and rummage through the closet to find the box where it’s hiding.

I ignored my feelings for a while, but now I want to embrace this little bit of happiness. I want to cherish the moments when you show me you love me, and I want to give them back to you so that you, in turn, can be happy. Let’s make our love stronger than anything! Even after several years together, we can still take the time—it’s never too late. Those three words—I want us to say them to each other until the very end.

I love you!
