Have you heard of Murphy's Law? Basically, it says that whatever can go wrong will go wrong.
In fact, this year will definitely go down in history as a “good” year. Your 2e Not a birthday either, let's say.
I was supposed to use my day off to finalize the details of your party a party… or rather, the two small parties we had planned, since we couldn’t have more than 10 people from 3 different households.
Instead, I spent the day making 200 phone calls and running around to the doctor, because, of course, you had to pick your actual birthday to get a fever spike. A nice ear infection for you, sweetie—happy birthday! But it couldn’t end with just a prescription for antibiotics, like the other 12 ear infections you’ve had—no way! F**king Because of COVID, you had to have a little cotton swab stuck up your nose for two seconds—something you didn't particularly enjoy, let's just say.
Back home: We’re keeping your brother home too, just to be safe—so he doesn’t infect his friends at daycare, just in case. We’ll stay in isolation until we get the test results back—and they’re negative! Luckily, the party Since it's scheduled for two days from now, we figured we could still do it—we'll get the results in time…
NO WAY! The next evening, still no word: we’re canceling the party. You’re totally fine with it, but the older one is disappointed he won’t get to see his cousins as planned…
I've decided to celebrate your birthday anyway, just between the two of us. What do you think—did I do a good job with the cake? NO WAY! I tried a cake called health with blueberries and lemons. I should have known, just from the name, that it wouldn’t work: it didn’t rise, and the batter didn’t even fill the pan. We would never have fed the family that… thing. The ugliest (and smallest) cake in the universe. You ended up decorating it yourself—it turned into a Picasso! Or rather, a DRAFT by Picasso!?!
Finally, we get the call: the test came back negative—everything’s great! We’re putting dinner back on the schedule!
Let's say it's not the party which has ever been made. Your aunts had really partied the night before, thinking they’d have the next day to recover. They weren’t exactly “live it up” types. We ended up eating a cake that was full of artificial ingredients.
And as for your mood that night… the photo above is worth a thousand words: NOT IMPRESSED!
Thanks, Murphy! In the end, we ended up laughing about it, and it'll always be a memorable birthday for Dad and me <3
We'll get back on track next year—I promise!
And for those of you who had to celebrate your birthdays during the pandemic, how did it go? Was it as much of a FAIL as ours? I can't wait to hear about it!
