Letter to My B.A.B.I.

My little sweetheart, you’re growing up at breakneck speed! At just two years old, you amaze me in so many ways. You’re such a chatterbox—you hardly ever stop talking. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as they say!

You’re an amazing little girl in so many ways! But, I have to say, my baby: you’re intense! You always have been, and you probably always will be. From your very first hours of life, I knew your arrival wouldn’t be as “simple” as your brother’s.

The first year with you was very emotional: the endless feedings, the reflux, your stay in the intensive care unit, the all-too-frequent nighttime awakenings, the hospital stays, the crying fits when you were simply inconsolable. I remember often crying with you. I felt so helpless at times, and then, all of a sudden, you’d reward me with wonderful smiles that made me forget—if only for a moment—just how much I didn’t know how to handle you.

Then you grew up, and sleeping through the night was still something that eluded you. You’d take naps of just two hours at a time… even at a year and a half. With a little outside help, you slept through your first night—much to my delight! The nights that followed gradually improved your temperament. You became a little gentler and a little less irritable.

My baby, you’re intense—in every reaction, whether you’re happy or sad. You need us all the time—to know we’re there for you every moment. Which is a bit of a contradiction, because you’re very independent for your age. Even though you keep telling me you’re “capable all by yourself!”, you always come back to me for a little help.

Sweetie, you have such a vibrant personality! It’s impossible not to fall in love with you once you get to know you well. You’re adorable, my curly-haired little devil. Even if sometimes (not to say often), you push Daddy and me to our absolute limits.

Mommy loves you so much, little one!
