My dear mom, here is my suicide note

My dear Mom, dry your tears.

My dear Mom, don’t be sad—I’m not sad anymore. I was lucky enough to see so many things. I remember those beautiful summer evenings when I used to count the stars with you. Now I can tell them my secrets. Look up at the sky. The one that shines the brightest will be me, to soothe your heart.

My dear mom, don’t worry. Here, no one can hurt me—not from the inside or the outside. I can close my eyes and have sweet dreams. I’m laughing again and taking a breather. I’m not afraid anymore.

My dear mom, don’t blame yourself. It’s not you, it’s not Dad. It’s no one—and yet, in a way, everyone. Deep down inside, there wasn’t much there. Nothing strong enough to protect me, nothing strong enough to keep me going. I had a good job, a family, and two or three friends. I had a house, a dog, good neighbors, and plans for the future. It wasn’t what I had that hurt—it was what was missing. What was being taken from me day after day. It’s all the harm that isn’t obvious—the kind people go out of their way to inflict, though I don’t know why.

My dear mom, do me a favor. Explain to people the weight of words, the weight of actions. Remind people of the importance of kindness, patience, and being present. Remind them that there are many opinions and that none is right. That we must treat others as we would like to be treated! That every little scratch adds up, and eventually they break everything.

My dear mom, build a better world. More acceptance, less judgment. What’s happening right now is terrible. People focused only on themselves, without a thought for others. Those who trample everything to get what they want. Those who hurt just to hurt. Build a world of gratitude, forgiveness, and empathy. Scatter confetti everywhere, along with free smiles and the chirping of birds.

My dear mom, pull yourself together. Be proud of our wonderful years together, and please, let me fly away. I’m tired; I’m going to sleep. Keep being perfectly imperfect and sing me a song before you fall asleep.

My dear mom, I love you.
