A cloud has settled over your head and, insidiously, has dimmed some of the light. It has stirred up torrents around you, churned up waves, and nestled somewhere deep inside you. It’s weighing on you from the inside, taking your breath away when you least expect it, and draining your energy. You’re struggling to keep your head above water, but the waves are strong and their weight is heavy.
Today, it’s a little darker. You didn’t listen to yourself; you didn’t set your boundaries, and this time, no matter how much you want to do more, you just can’t keep going. Your batteries are low and hard to recharge. Just when you finally think things are getting back on track, another jolt hits you, and you’re tired of it.
Today, things feel a little darker, but that’s not a sign of weakness. The lights are dimmed so you can rest and refocus. You know it’ll be okay. It’ll eventually pass, and you’ll get back on top of things. You just have some things to figure out. Among other things, that your needs are important too, and that you matter, too. You’ll have to talk to yourself over and over again, but you’ll get there. It takes time, but tell yourself that by doing things the right way, the darkness might never come back.
Today, it’s a little darker, sure. But I promise you the light will return. There’s no doubt that when all this is over, a better version of yourself will emerge. Most of your demons will be gone for good. Hold on tight, because the person about to burst forth will be unstoppable. Your strength will be all the greater for it.
Tomorrow, you’ll turn the lights back on. In the meantime, take a deep breath and rest: everything will be okay.
