And what about the couple in all this?

And what about the couple in all this?

Well, it’s time to play outside, make dinner, eat, change diapers, then bath time and the bedtime routine.  And let’s not forget potty training for the oldest! By the way, if we can get the youngest to practice his colors, that would be great! Oh, and I have an important work email to send—I need to find time for it sometime this evening.

The routine, the routine, the routine.

It wasn’t until our heads finally hit the pillow that we remembered: today was supposed to be our fifth wedding anniversary.

Our kids are asleep, finally. It’s 9:00 p.m. We completely forgot our fifth wedding anniversary. How is that possible?

We love each other deeply. However, sometimes routine completely swallows up our relationship. Routine takes over everything. So much so that there’s nothing left for us, for our relationship. We love each other deeply, but sometimes even that love gets lost in the routine. We love each other deeply, but sometimes we forget it.

So, I tell myself that this isn’t normal. We need to make an effort and spend some time together! Let’s get a babysitter! We’re lucky—we found a trustworthy babysitter—but unfortunately, she’s pregnant! Our families live far away. Our friends are already parents. In short, it’s not as easy as it seems. Luckily, we have daycare. Yeah… but when the kids are at daycare, we’re working, and taking time off isn’t that easy.

We love each other deeply, but that’s not always enough. No, to save our marriage, we have to do more than just love each other—we have to do everything we can to set our routine aside and take care of ourselves. We have to do everything we can to make sure we don’t forget our fifth wedding anniversary. Today, I look up at the sky wishing for just one thing: that this routine doesn’t get the better of our marriage. We’re going through a difficult time, but I hope with all my heart that it will come to an end and that we’ll still be together, hand in hand, to celebrate the beginning of something new. We love each other deeply, and I hope that will be enough.

Is love enough?
