Hi! My name is Juju, and I’m two years old. I’m small, but my brother is big—he’s six and goes to school. Well, not right now, anyway. I didn’t really understand why, but overnight, he stopped going to school and I stopped going to Caro’s house. Caro’s house is my school—the little kids’ school. My parents call it daycare, but I prefer to say it’s a school; that way, I’m a little more like my big brother.
At first, Mom would go down to the basement and work on her computer. We’d go outside with Dad, play at the park, or go for little walks. Mom would come back for lunch and for my nap. I love the time right before my nap. We listen to a little music and rock back and forth, just the two of us.
It’s been like this for two and a half months now. Except Mom doesn’t go down to the basement anymore. She stays with us all day, and I love it. The four of us are together all the time. We have a lot of fun. Sometimes we call Caro or Grandpa and Grandma on the tablet. I get really bored, but Dad and Mom say we can’t see each other right away—we have to wait. But that’s okay with me—Dad and Mom are here.
Still, sometimes Mom or Dad seem sad. When Mom and I snuggle up for a nap, she often cries. She apologizes for not being as patient, for yelling sometimes. Sometimes she asks how all this is going to end, and she always ends up hugging me really tight, telling me she loves us so, so much. So I know everything’s going to be okay. I fall asleep and have sweet dreams.
Lately, we went to Grandpa and Grandma’s house, and we went swimming at Uncle Francis’s place. Grandpa and Grandma were there, too. We had so much fun! Mom said the “prime minister” said yes to going outside to play with other friends. But I can’t go to Caro’s house yet, and my brother went to pick up all his school supplies, because Mom says we live too close to Montreal. I have no idea what that means, but it’s cool because we have lots of new paper and pencils.
It’s funny, because ever since we saw Grandpa and Grandma again, Mom’s been calmer and smiles more. It must be because they’re her parents. When I’m at Caro’s house and Mom comes to pick me up, I jump for joy and run into her arms. Maybe it’s the same for grown-ups, too. Except she didn’t run into their arms, because she says she’s not allowed to. But Grandma cheated… She gave me a big hug. I was happy. Don’t tell anyone—it’s our secret!
So there you go. My name is Juju, and I’m two and a half years old. I’m with my family all the time—playing outside, looking at books and watching movies, riding my scooter and tricycle, building with blocks, and bickering with my brother. My brother teaches me lots of things. I eat and sleep at home—all the time.
Anyway, ever since I’ve been in lockdown (that’s what my parents call it), I’ve been living my best life!
