I wrote the piece “Just Some Sweetness” in July 2019. It feels like such a long time ago… It’s now March 2020. We’re in a critical period. Social media is ablaze and causing maximum anxiety. Bad news is piling up, and we have to stay home as much as possible.
As I write this, the kids have been out of school for a week. Despite all the negativity I’m surrounded by day after day, I’ve decided to focus on the beautiful, the positive, and the sweet things.
In short, here’s just some sweetness, Volume 2, COVID-19 Special.
The kids, my husband, and I go out every evening after dinner. We take a lovely walk around our neighborhood, and my kids marvel at the melting snow and the flocks of geese soaring across the sky. For that brief moment, I forget that we’re in the midst of a crisis.
I’m working from home, and my team and I have a Facebook group where we chat. I often burst out laughing at my coworkers’ posts, and it really, really makes me feel good.
We’re dressed in comfy clothes all the time… And well, when you’re in comfy clothes, it’s always cozy.
We watch the beautiful videos of quarantined neighborhoods in Europe that remain so full of life: people singing, clapping, dancing to a DJ’s music—everyone on their balconies, so far away, yet so close…
My two-year-old, who has no idea what’s going on. He runs all over the place, having fun, marveling at spring as it settles in. He dances, he sings, he talks (and yells)… He’s living his life as a two-year-old… and that’s wonderful!
My six-year-old is asking questions. He can clearly see that everything that’s happening isn’t normal. He can’t wait to go back to school, where he plays with letters and numbers in the most natural way. He cheers when he gets it right on the first try—it’s beautiful to watch!
In fact, he has a message for all of you: “Stay home, because the longer you stay home, the sooner I’ll go back to school, and I have lots of things to show my friends, so please make an effort.”
We can get through this together. We can win this battle together. By staying home and sharing the love…
