Letter to My School Staff

It’s important to me to write these words to my staff during these very difficult times, in the midst of this pandemic. I’d like to tell you more than just “thank you for being here.”

I want to tell you: YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!

I know that for weeks now, our lives have changed. We have to juggle and manage many situations beyond our control, all while staying calm. Let’s face it, it’s not easy! You are truly incredible. Day after day, I see you buzzing around like little bees in your classrooms, on the playground, in our hallways, and among the students.

You’re working so hard to try to make up for the time lost during lockdown, to untangle impossible conflicts caused by stress, and to give all your love to these children because you know their anxiety levels are through the roof… without letting your own worry show too much. I know it’s not always easy, but I thank you from the bottom of my heart and on behalf of all our students! I’m proud to say that you’re taking it one day at a time: you arrive at school with your heads held high and get through each day with great success. I’m proud, and I can’t wait to say that we’ve come through this brilliantly, together, thanks to the amazing team you make up.

Yes, I’m writing these words during a pandemic, but I shouldn’t only be writing this when things aren’t going so well. A short letter or a few kind words are important to share at all times, for the well-being of the people who work day in and day out, who give their all—like my own staff, my precious colleagues who help me hold down the fort at school.

Dear employers, don’t forget to give your employees a little pat on the back—whether times are tough or not, they need it. It’s important.
