Random Complaints

It happens fairly often that I’m alone with my two boys—ages 4 and 6 months—when we go out, including to that dreaded grocery store… Lately, I’ve run into some annoyances. So I’ve decided to write an official complaint report right here.

I am officially filing a complaint against grocery carts!

They aren’t suited for my family. They keep making them bigger and bigger, yet they remain completely non-functional and ineffective. First off, the shopping carts with little cars on them—the ones that make kids feel like they’re driving… It’s impossible for us to use those here, at least in the middle of winter. Why? Because even though this cart has three compartments (one for the kids and two others for groceries), the car seat doesn’t fit in any of them. So, what am I supposed to do? Leave my baby at the information desk with the backpacks? My baby is still too small—he can’t sit up on his own. I have a baby carrier, but since it’s -8,000 degrees outside, my baby is either dressed like a bear (so he doesn’t fit in the carrier) or is in his car seat, nice and warm, wrapped in his baby sleeping bag… and he’s asleep! So we’re stuck taking the annoying shopping cart where the sleeping bag fits, but not where we usually put the other kid—no way: in the biggest compartment! So, girl, you better not have too many items on your list!

I know I could leave the infant carrier in the courtesy area, put the baby in the baby carrier, and the older one in his stroller; I’d have all the space I need to put my groceries in the shopping cart and everyone would be happy. Except, as I mentioned earlier, my baby is often asleep. There’s nothing else to add: he’s asleep!!! Also, on the way out, I’ll have to put him back in his car seat, with my older child in his stroller, my grocery bags… I’m back to square one: I have nowhere to put the car seat because…

I’m officially filing a complaint against newborn car seats! (aka “car seats”)

How is it that in 2018, with all the advances in science and technology, car seats are still just as heavy!!! We walked on the moon in 1969, and almost 50 years later, moms are still straining their backs lifting this (expletive censored) car seat!

Then you come home, dripping with sweat, grocery bags in one hand, your infant car seat tucked under your arm, and your 4-year-old clinging to your leg (“But I wanted to ride in the fire truck, Mom!!!!”) and you just want—let’s say—20 minutes, just 20 little minutes where you do absolutely nothing… So, like any self-respecting, unworthy mom, you plop your oldest in front of the TV and then… to be continued.
