Who says pink is just for girls?

I’m so fed up…

I can’t stand seeing and hearing comments like, “I’m looking for a diaper bag for a girl, a stroller for a boy, early learning toys for a baby girl, etc.”

When I got pregnant with my first child, we were lucky enough to be able to make a registry to welcome her into our lives. Knowing it was a little girl, we could have gone all out with pink and lavender stuff and skipped the blue, red, and green… Well, no way—when we found out we were expecting, we chose practical, affordable items, because it drives me crazy to see a baby swing selling for $150 when the baby’s only going to use it a few times…

Yeah, it’s true that it’s a lifesaver sometimes, that it frees up Mom’s arms, but do you really think the baby is going to notice that the seat is pink, or that the little toys around it are princesses? Well, no—he won’t care at all; he’ll have fun, and that’s all that matters!

My 4-year-old son plays with dolls; he loves having nail polish put on his fingers and toes, and he goes crazy for the stickers we put on his shirt. My daughter loves to climb, jump, scream, play with toy guns, and go on ATV rides.

My kids aren’t abnormal—it’s just that my kids aren’t gendered, and I’m really proud of that. My kids are unique; they’re beautiful, curious, and full of joy. They love discovering the world, and everything around them is a source of fun. I plan to continue raising them this way. For me, what matters most in life is feeling comfortable in your own skin, having fun, and knowing yourself well. What matters is having such a strong belief in your own abilities that nothing and no one can hurt or diminish you.
