The day I saw you…
I remember it as if it were yesterday: the day we met. You, the love of my life—I never would have believed that our paths would cross like that (or in that place, to be honest!!)—but someone had other plans for the two of us, and our wild and wonderful story was just about to begin.
I don’t like dance or techno music. I prefer punk rock—or metal, at a stretch. Whatever’s playing on the radio is okay, too. I can live with that. Otherwise… no way. And yet, that night, my friends convinced me to go out somewhere else, so I swapped my Converse for high heels and put on a “girly” top instead of my T-shirt. We ended up at a bar in Laval.
Always looking younger than my age, I attracted “young guys,” whom I turned down. I didn’t want a kid—I wanted a man. After a good hour, a song from my era (it’s on Dance Mix 94!!!) came on—remixed, but still listenable; I can just see you singing along. “Yay,” I thought to myself, totally excited, “a guy 25 or older in the house!!” Then the game began.
How do I get his attention without lowering my IQ?? What impresses young men in a bar in Laval?? I know—I can drink tons of tequila without getting sick!! EVERYONE TO THE BAR!!! After a couple of drinks, you still aren’t talking to me, but you’re watching. Hmm?? Is he waiting to see if I’m going to throw up?? Well, no—you’re just as embarrassed as I am (I found that out later!!). My friend decides to take matters into her own hands and literally pushes me toward you (Oops, sorry!! That’s my friend Véro!!).
You asked me out, lent me your jacket, told me you were only 22 (even though I was 27!!), and we exchanged phone numbers!! After countless texts, dates, family parties, and two more girls later, we’re still together, engaged, and ready to get married. It just goes to show that love really does come when you least expect it!!
