Supermom

Is it because I’m a Libra, because I’m a mom, or simply because it’s part of who I am—my personality and my way of being?

When they’re awake, we wish they’d sleep. When they’re asleep, we find ourselves thinking how much fun it would be if they were awake. When you’re on maternity leave, at times, you find yourself thinking, “I can’t wait to go back to work to chat with adults, find fulfillment as a person, do something other than changing diapers, playing on the floor, and babbling ‘gagagaga’”… and yes, you’ve guessed the rest. When the official time to go back to work finally arrives, you find yourself thinking, “Oh no, not already? It went by so fast—I don’t want to leave my baby…”

It’s not always easy being a supermom. In any case, personally, I try, but I know full well that I’m far from perfect. Even though I do everything in my power to be perfect in my children’s eyes, I know full well that I’m not. I have a hard time accepting the fact that sometimes, I’d love to take a vacation all by myself—to hop in the car and drive off for, say, 24 hours, hearing nothing but music, singing at the top of my lungs with the windows wide open, just to feel the wind in my face! But no, I don’t do that—I’m a supermom, so I’m not allowed to!

Super Mom has to get everything right; Super Mom has to always be there no matter what; Super Mom puts so much pressure on herself—way too much pressure. We don’t need others to do that—we’re so hard on ourselves; we’re our own worst enemy sometimes. We want to get everything right; we want everything to be just like on Pinterest—let’s just say it: perfect! But maybe if we keep telling ourselves over and over that perfection doesn’t exist, we’ll finally get it into our heads once and for all, and we’ll stop chasing it—we’ll stop feeling guilty when we don’t feel like doing something, when we’re just fed up… when we just want to curl up in a little ball and cry our eyes out. Well, yes, you guys, I’m writing this here… but keep in mind that just because I’m writing it doesn’t mean I’m actually doing it—but just because I’m not doing it doesn’t mean I don’t believe it!!!

Let’s try to let go, let’s try to lower our expectations of ourselves and the people around us, let’s scale back our expectations, and let’s savor everything that comes our way. And I’ll add this: let’s be natural and transparent—why be afraid to say what we think or what we’re going through? Just because we’re “super moms” doesn’t mean we live wrapped in bubble wrap!!!
