I can’t remember the day I met you, because I was so little when you came into our lives. But I do know that you chose us—it was part of the deal with Mom... You were young, full of dreams and ambitions, and you had your whole life ahead of you. You still had so much time to start your own family, but you chose us, unconditionally—even though our biological father was still in our lives whenever he felt like it.
I also know that you’ve always taken care of us, day and night, without ever complaining. You were there for every soccer game, every graduation, every important moment in our lives. You made sure we had everything we needed, that we could go to college, that we believed in ourselves, that we could make our dreams come true, and so much more. Today, you take care of your grandchildren and love them unconditionally.
Despite our rebellious phases, the many times we dared to tell you, “You’re not my real father,” and the moments of doubt, you stayed by our side and loved us even more. It took me a long time to realize all of this—perhaps even too long…
Today I thank you for giving me that love, for encouraging me, for believing in me, and for being a man with such wonderful values and convictions—because without you, I wouldn’t be the woman I’ve become.
I would have liked to sign this, but it’s not that simple…. Family matters are complicated, and sometimes it’s better not to fuel conflicts.
I know you’ll recognize yourself—there’s no one else quite like you!
In my heart, you are and always will be my dad. The bond that unites us goes far beyond blood ties—never forget that…
