For more than 2,020 years now, countless bloody murders, horrific rapes, shootings, confinements, and kidnappings have been taking place. Why? We’re seeing more and more of these stories in the media.
A few years ago, the devout followers of Jesus I met would have simply told me that Eve brought evil into our world by biting into that fruit. How could such twisted and deranged people have been created by a God said to be full of love and compassion? I cannot accept that explanation. So where do these people come from?
I’d like to understand what was going through the minds of those parents who murdered, beat, or tortured their own children or their spouse’s children. How can you, even for a single second, harm the flesh of your own flesh? How can you devise such a macabre plan? I can’t bring myself to believe that you wanted to hurt your ex, or that you were jealous of their new partner. Co-parenting and parental love exist even when there’s no longer a romantic relationship between the parents. I can’t thank my parents enough for at least managing to separate amicably, and my stepfather for loving us so much.
What goes through your head to make you dare believe that the other human being standing before you doesn’t have to give their consent? That you can rob them of their dignity, their trust, their self-respect, without them having a say in the matter? And worse still, sometimes after making them suffer so much, you take it upon yourself to decide that their life is over. I’ll never understand what went through my own father’s mind—or that of one of my exes—and it really bothers me. Why?
Did he really harbor such intense hatred toward women that he would target the female students at the École Polytechnique? Was he so bloodthirsty that he would storm into Dawson College with that weapon? Did he hate his ex-partner so much that he would take her children away from her? Did she hate her husband’s ex so much that she tortured little Aurore? Did he need that little girl so badly to satisfy his desires, only to kill her and leave her bones somewhere?
I’d like to get inside their minds, into their thoughts. What’s going on? Our media is filled with tragedy and horror. Persecution knows no bounds. People simply need to think differently so that all this evil can stop. Whether it’s a mental health issue or not, there’s a serious problem in society, and it’s high time it was addressed.
I’d like to understand what goes on in their minds, so that the victims didn’t suffer for no reason—there is a reason, but what is it?
To all those who have suffered, directly or indirectly, I hear you, and my heart goes out to you. This has to stop!
