My little guy, my little chick

You took up residence in my belly very early on; some would say way too early. Just as I was turning 17, you showed up. From your very first breath, I knew my life had just changed: I didn’t know how yet, but I knew that from that moment on, everything would be different!

You’re the first of five great love stories—an eternal love, a love that can’t be explained, but only experienced! You’ve made me so proud at every milestone you’ve reached—whether it was your first smile, your first words, your first steps, your first day of school, or all the tough times we’ve been through together… all your “firsts” have filled me with pride and joy.

But today, I’d like to turn back time… you’ve gotten so big—too big?! With just a few months to go before that big transition from elementary to high school, my stomach is in knots, my eyes are filled with tears—I’m scared, my little man. I’m scared to see you grow up, scared that time will keep speeding up, scared to see you drift away.

I like to believe that you’ll always be my little chick, but I also know that I have to let you find your own way in this crazy world we live in. I dare to hope that the education and values we pass on to you every day will be enough to make you a good and happy man! I hope that in the coming years, my motherly heart will have calmed down, and that watching you flourish will continue to fill me with pride and joy!
