I don’t really like wearing a swimsuit in front of other people. I’ve had four kids, I have stretch marks, and I’ve got a nice little roll of fat! But even when I was younger—when I was slim and toned—I wasn’t comfortable wearing a bikini. It’s sad when I think back on it.
I rarely wear a swimsuit in the summer. I don't have a pool at home. I feel a little self-conscious about sunbathing in front of the neighbors, and I'm not very comfortable when I go to the public pool with the kids.
I don't hold back, though—I just choose my swimsuit accordingly and think about the poses I strike. You know, the kind of poses that make us look bad, like when you lean forward and that roll of fat hangs down, or when you're sitting down with all those belly folds?
So I try to squat instead of leaning forward, for example, and I try not to make the bulge any bigger when I sit down.
I realized this summer that when I'm traveling, all of a sudden, I don't care about any of that at all! I wear more swimsuits sexy and doesn't care what other people think. I have fun collecting seashells and rocks with the kids on the beach, with my hair blowing in the wind!!!
It’s as if, by the sea, anything goes, and I’m no longer afraid of feeling judged. To hell with insecurities! I’m enjoying my vacation and having fun with the kids, without worrying about what others might think of me.
Deep down, I know that’s the attitude I should have all the time… but I still have a long way to go!
