Our Four-Legged Babies

In life, very often, before having a baby, we adopt a cat or a dog… Sometimes a goldfish, but it’s less likely to live 12 years and is much less entertaining… Life as a couple begins with taking care of our beloved four-legged companion. That beloved companion becomes your real baby. Your cell phone is full of photos of your cat or dog. You post 10 photos a day of your four-legged baby on social media, because you love him so much and you’re so proud of how beautiful he is. In short, without you even realizing it, your friends think you’re a little too smitten with your furry friend.

But that’s normal—this furball is your first baby. Every time you walk through the door, he’s the happiest in the world. Every time you leave, he looks at you sadly when you say, “Have a good day, my big baby—Mommy’ll be back tonight.” Between you and me, there isn’t a single living being on Earth who feels as much sadness and joy when you leave and come home as he does...! This is true proof of your pet’s love.

So, after a while, this animal has taken up a lot of space in your life. You talk it over with your partner, and you realize you’re ready for the next step: having a baby. In theory, if you can take care of a pet, you figure a baby won’t be so bad. In the end, it’s not the same thing at all, but it takes up just as much of your time as the baby does.

I’ll admit that having a dog, a cat, and kids isn’t always easy. Often, the dog and cat don’t get enough attention… BUT when I see my daughter playing with my dog and giving my cat hugs and kisses, I take comfort in knowing that they still get plenty of love and are the best friends anyone could have!

I wouldn’t trade my furry little bundles for anything, because honestly, they bring life to our home. When I’m making dinner and I hear my daughter laughing out loud, I know she’s having fun thanks to my big curly-haired dog, who lets her do whatever she wants with him. Our four-legged babies are part of our lives, part of our family.

I love my four-legged babies!!
