I’m a super-neat mom. I’ll admit it. And here, I’m not talking about my house or myself. Although… Anyway, I’m talking about my baby.
A baby is supposed to smell good. So you can bury your nose in his little neck and it smells like a baby. Not like sour milk. It’s got to smell good. As my mom would say, it shouldn’t smell like a little duck with a broken leg. Come to think of it, I wonder why that duck stinks.
So, my baby has to smell good. I’m the mom who puts powder in the crease of his neck, under his arms, and in the crease of his thighs 850 times a day. I’m the mom who uses baby lotion like crazy. I’m the mom who can wash her baby’s hair three or four times a day if he’s got drool, milk, or applesauce in it.
I’m the mom who carries a pack of wipes everywhere—in the kitchen, in the bathroom, in the bedroom, in the car, in the trailer, in the diaper bag, in her purse. Everywhere! The one who always has a soapy washcloth ready to go.
I’m the mom who freaks out if someone gives their baby soft-serve ice cream without first making sure they have a pack of wipes, paper towels, or a bib on hand…
I’m the mom who will never let her baby eat without a bib. Never! Even dry cereal has to be eaten with a bib. Because when a baby eats, they drool. And drool stinks.
I’m the mom who can change her baby’s clothes 30 times in a single day if there’s a stain, a strange smell, or if the baby is damp.
I’m a mom who washes her baby’s crib sheets at least once a week. Babies sweat too, and sweat can cause an odor. And an odor is unpleasant.
I’m a mom who freaks out when her baby starts crawling and eats grass, plays in the dirt, or touches an ant with her finger. And I freak out even more if that baby goes to the beach. Sunscreen, sand, a drooly baby hand—just thinking about it makes me dizzy!!!
I’m a mom who’s all about keeping my baby clean. But it’s all just because I love burying my nose in my little princess’s neck. Because I love giving her a million kisses every day. Because I love cuddling her. Because a baby who smells good is so much more fun to cuddle!
