Dear neighbor, thank you!

I’m not judging you, but I have to tell you something...

It makes me sad to hear you working out every day in your 4½-room apartment, especially after you told me you needed to exercise to lose your pregnancy weight. All this because you asked me if you were bothering us during your daily elliptical workout.

It makes me sad to see your husband go out alone to run errands. You hardly ever go out.

It makes me sad to see that you always wear the same two “outfits” with your hair a mess when you go out.

It saddens me that you stay cooped up all week long.

When I gave birth, I promised myself I’d do the opposite of all that, because it just didn’t feel right for me. My soul and my body were asking for more than that.

I promised myself I’d leave the apartment every day—whether just to walk the dog or to go for a long family walk.

I promised myself I’d work out and get in shape for one reason only: to set a good example for my daughter about healthy lifestyle habits. Not because of a diet or a desire to lose weight, but simply to love myself.

I promised myself I’d find all kinds of excuses to get out of the house. Even something as silly as going to buy cold medicine and bringing the bottle to my husband’s work. Not out of obligation, but for fun.

I promised myself I’d make myself look good—or feel good—every day, even in my pajamas on the worst “bad hair day.”

I’m not comparing my lawn to yours; I’m just observing it to see if certain ways of maintaining it work for me or if I’d rather get inspiration from Pinterest. We all make our own choices, but know that my lawn isn’t greener than yours—it’s just different, just like we are as people, and that’s perfect.

I want you to know that watching your life through my patio door has helped me figure out what would—and wouldn’t—work in my new life as a mom. I just hope you love your life just the way it is, because as for me, my life is perfect in my own way.
