Experiencing Remote Work and Lockdown

Like many of you, I’m currently working from home to minimize my travel as much as possible and do my part in the collective effort. I’ve already made a few observations that I’d like to share with you today.

1- It’s important to maintain some kind of routine in your work schedule. That’s why I set my alarm for the same time every day. Of course, with kids, this can be more challenging. It can be helpful to set up a system with them to let them know when they can interrupt you and when they can’t. It can be as simple as a red card or a green card. It might also be a good idea to schedule a 5-minute break with them every hour.

2- You’ll see the benefits of not having to commute to work. You can take the time to have lunch with your family before starting your day. Plus, as soon as the workday is over, you’re free to move right on to the next thing. As a bonus, everyone’s already home!

3- Take this opportunity to tackle tasks you’ve been putting off for a while due to lack of time. For my part, my windows will be sparkling clean, and I’ll also do a little tidying up of paperwork. Take the time to make a family list of things you’d like to do during this period and have fun checking them off.

4- We can think about the habits we’d like to change and the steps we can take to become more “green.” Over the past few days, we’ve been seeing more and more posts about the positive effects of lockdown on nature. Why not think about what we can do at home? I currently have my first bottle of homemade all-purpose soap—made with vinegar and orange peels—sitting out to steep.

5- We’re taking good care of our skin and avoiding makeup. Personally, I don’t plan on wearing makeup for quite a while. I just apply my face cream every morning.

The most important thing, however, is to enjoy those little moments with family and avoid going out. Do it for yourself, but also for everyone else.
