My Daycare Forever

Imagine it’s a Tuesday afternoon, you’re at work, and you receive an email titled “DAYCARE CLOSURE.”

A feeling I call: I could have done without that!

My daycare, our daycare, their daycare—it’s closed its doors. How could I not be sad?

I’m sad for my 2-year-old who’s losing his friends, sad for the owners who’ve lost everything, sad for those teachers. My teachers, our teachers—those angels who step in for us working moms, nine hours a day. My son’s teacher was my other half, my doppelganger, my heroine. She was the one who handled the good days as well as the bad. She was the one who comforted my son when he was feeling down and who worried when he was sick.

Well, today, my “second self” finds herself out of a job, and the 60 children find themselves without their “second mom.” There’s no point in lashing out at the owners who tried everything they could.

This leads me to question our society’s financial management. Kudos for the beautiful, cute lights on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge. What’s the cost of all that? Wouldn’t we be better off investing in financial aid for the services that help keep our society running? I’m worried about the future of families in Quebec.

In short, I’d like to give a huge SHOUTOUT to the entire staff at La Chanterelle daycare, who did an exceptional job and made 60 children happy.

From a mom who loves you so much!
