My Little Lifelines

Even as a little girl, I already clearly expressed my requests and needs, and I usually got what I wanted. As I grew up, I became a woman who stands up for her ideals, has big dreams, and challenges herself day after day.

In my secret journal, you can see my list of dreams, all in pink, written in cursive by my 10-year-old hands: To race in Formula 1, visit the moon, be rich, and become a famous person.

Nothing less!

True to myself, I’ve always wanted more, so I’ve had to work hard. Despite myself, I’ve often taken detours. I’ve been caught up in people, events, and bad decisions, and I’ve had my share of difficulties. Like a little soldier, I put on my battle gear and faced the storms. I never laid down my arms. I possess an inner strength that has allowed me to fight, to get back up after falling, and to move forward without much complaint through life’s ups and downs. I’m fortunate to have a personality that allows me to be where I am today—but above all, that allows me to go wherever I want.

And then there was that night. I’d been navigating rough waters for some time, and life was throwing even more challenges my way. The storm seemed bigger than usual. Despite the people around me, the experience I’d gained over time, and my strong character, I capsized. I didn’t call for help; instead, I watched myself sink little by little.

After a few tears, I opened my eyes wide and spotted some small buoys. I decided to hold on to them tightly until the storm subsided. I’d even say it was easy and pleasant. I felt lighter and was able to admire the scenery around me. By pouring my heart and soul into achieving my goals, I’d forgotten to take the time to appreciate my surroundings. So I made my way to shore, serene, my little life rings in hand. Their size didn’t matter—they managed to keep my head above water, and I was able to catch my breath.

My little life rings—your soft little hands in mine during a Saturday morning walk, your chocolate-covered kisses on my white sweater, your scribbles piling up on the counter, and your endless laughter—brought me back down to earth. You are the reason I keep pushing myself day after day, even on the days that feel a little gray. The unconditional love we’ve built allows us to achieve great things together. I know now that I can sail any ocean with you by my side, my little lifebuoys.

I hope that, just like me, you’ll be filled with dreams and ambition and that you’ll have that inner strength that will always push you just a little further. Rest assured, if you ever lose your way, all you’ll have to do is look into the distance—there will always be a light to guide you. Your mom, your lighthouse.
