What I wish for us…

The year is drawing to a close. For some of us, it was made unforgettable by the arrival of a new family member, a new relationship, a promotion, or positive or unexpected changes. For others, it brought its share of challenges and setbacks—it was a real struggle! It made us want to turn the page, to move on to a new chapter… As we take stock of the year, I wanted to offer you—or rather, us, as moms—my wishes for the coming year.

I hope we can accept that we’ll make mistakes; we’re only human, after all. Being a mom is something you learn! Making a mistake usually means you’ve tried something new, stepped outside your comfort zone. In short, it’s actually something to be proud of! And the good news is, we can’t do any worse next time, right?

I hope we make decisions for ourselves—at least from time to time. That we’re able to listen to our inner voice and respect our limits. Choosing ourselves is the best example of self-respect we can set for our children. And a fulfilled mom is a wonderful gift to give them, too…

I hope we can learn to let go. There are so many things we have no control over. Let’s choose our battles and let life take care of the rest—it will surely bring us some wonderful surprises.

I hope we can support one another. We’re all unique, and the way we raise our children is just as unique. What if we decided to focus on what unites us, rather than what divides us? We’ll all go through impossible nights, bacon crises, and “You’re not my mom anymore!” moments. Why dwell on our differences when we all share this unconditional love for our children?

Basically, I wish us a gentle and peaceful year—if that’s what we want—or an exciting and intense one, if that’s what we choose. In short, a year that reflects who we are: imperfectly perfect!
