Because sometimes, as parents, we feel completely overwhelmed by our daily grind—commute, work, sleep—and we forget that happiness is found in the little things. Because we put so much social pressure on ourselves that we often (read: probably always) forget that we should see things through a child’s eyes.
When I sit on the couch after a day at work, completely exhausted, and my almost 2-year-old son comes up to me and says, “Come here, Mom” (read: “Come here, Mom,” with that little hand gesture) just so I’ll chase after him around the kitchen table—it’s at that exact moment, when I watch him laugh out loud, that I remember that sometimes happiness is found in the little things. It’s when I see my son laughing like crazy as he points at my boyfriend because he just shaved off his beard (yes, that big beard he’d been growing for a year).
That’s when I start laughing too, and I remember that, deep down, that’s what happiness is all about. It’s when I watch my son run after the dogs, shouting with joy. That’s exactly when I rediscover the child in my heart—the one I tend to forget as the week goes by. Sometimes, we’re overwhelmed by how fast life goes by.
So, my dear mom, remember that your childlike heart isn’t that far away!
You just need to make room for it in your schedule as a busy mom!
So put your life on pause for just a moment to appreciate how lucky you are!
