In general, you like your life. But sometimes, everything goes wrong.
It starts with that night when you barely slept at all. Insomnia, back pain, a headache, a crying baby—whatever the reason, the fact is you slept really poorly. Next comes waking up. You know, the kind where the baby is wailing and the older kids are chasing each other around the house, screaming. Then comes the argument between the two older kids—who were having a blast just a little while ago, but now they’re getting on each other’s nerves. In the midst of all that, you get an email with some bad news. And that’s when you spill your coffee or break a bowl.
You realize you forgot to have your oldest do his homework, which is obviously due today. He’s doing it at the corner of the counter, calling you all sorts of names because you didn’t remind him last night. Because, you know, everyone knows it’s the mothers’ responsibility to handle that.
The youngest tells you he just peed himself. Wash him off, change his diaper. It’s almost time to leave. The baby threw up on you, on her, and on the floor. No time to clean it up right now—the older kids are going to be late. That’s when the youngest starts throwing a fit in the entryway, screaming that he doesn’t want to go to school today. The oldest is crying because he’s sick of hearing the youngest scream. As for you, your head is about to explode. They leave.
You realize your appointment is in barely an hour. You get dressed and get ready. Your flat iron isn’t working anymore. You put your hair in a ponytail—you’ll go buy a new one later. You change the baby, who’s covered in vomit. You clean up lunch and the broken bowl. You’re ready to leave, but of course, the baby has a poop. A nice big poop that’s overflowing. You change her.
In the car, the small gas gauge needle is pointing to "E." So you're going to be late.
Back home, you decide to run the vacuum cleaner, and that's when you realize the puddle of vomit still hasn't been cleaned up. So, with a bunch of seeds and dust stuck to it, you pick it up.
You take a quick look at your budget and realize you've made a big miscalculation. And fuck! You're really in the shnout.
You forgot to take something out for dinner. We'll make spaghetti. Some guests show up unexpectedly right before dinner. You forgot about a meeting at work.
There you are, bawling in the bathroom. You pull yourself together and go back to your guests. You tell yourself that a nice hot bath will do you a world of good.
The visitors have left, it's time for your bath, BUT.... There's no more hot water!
You have a headache. Damn it. Tylenol!
Finally, you're going back to your bed. When you get to your room, you realize your cat has thrown up on it. So you sit down on the floor and cry and cry. Your boyfriend doesn't understand what's going on.
Don't worry, sweetheart—tomorrow will be better!
