5-4-3-2-1…… There we go—the countdown is over! It’s time to take stock, and time for wishes as well… This is the time when we look back on the path we’ve traveled, the mistakes we’ve made so we don’t repeat them, the successes we’ve achieved, and the hope that the best is yet to come, that our dreams will come true.
I remember that at this very moment a few years ago, even though we were scattered throughout the house, this moment brought us together. Those sitting in front of the TV watching “Bye Bye,” those dancing on the dance floor or playing games in the basement, those eating in the kitchen… I remember that when that moment came, little as I was, I’d back away to try to avoid the well-wishes and hugs from my old uncles and aunts: “Good health, success in your studies, love, maybe a little boyfriend this year…” Oh, how we found those wishes so burdensome. Oh, how we didn’t really understand them; why, year after year, were we being fed the same old stuff?!
Today, I’ve become that annoying old aunt myself… but I swear I understand the essence of those wishes… because it’s true that if you don’t have your health, you have nothing!!! The wishes we made for each other year after year were the most important things… no one can buy good health and love!!! The time spent together, as a family—what a precious treasure… As they say, a lot has happened since then. Times have changed, people have grown older, some loved ones have left us, others have joined us, and life goes on… but I still tell myself that this was what mattered most, and that this truth will never change!
Today, I understand… Those precious memories—the ones that make us smile and bring us to tears… those priceless moments will never return, but despite that, these beautiful words will continue to be heard, year after year, because I’m determined to carry on this tradition and instill these wonderful values in my children.
On that note, dear readers, I wish each and every one of you what matters most: a wonderful year, filled with good health, love, quality time with family and friends, happiness, joy, and success in your endeavors. I won’t forget to wish you a little bit of money, too, because let’s face it, that certainly helps 😉
Happy holidays, and enjoy every moment together
