Being a new mother during the pandemic has plunged me into a whirlwind of loneliness, and I don’t know how to get out of it. I’m alone. When I talk to people around me, I realize that this feeling of being alone in the world is becoming more and more common.
Is this a problem created by our society?
We’re all too busy managing our own routines. Too busy to think about others. Too busy to reach out. Too busy to be a good friend. Too busy to see others. Too busy to see ourselves. Too busy.
Before I had children, that's how I lived, and it suited me just fine. However, ever since I've had children, loneliness has been weighing on me, like a burden that just keeps getting heavier.
I look at my children and realize that they will never experience what I have experienced. They won't be able to cross a single street to visit their aunt. They won't experience the party Sleeping over at their grandparents' house or parties filled with cousins. They’ll grow up in this loneliness that has now become a normal part of our lives.
Yes, this loneliness existed before the pandemic. However, the numerous lockdowns have made the situation worse, and it’s hard to go back to the way things were. We’ve lost the habit. We’ve lost friends. We’ve lost the desire.
This feeling of loneliness is spreading throughout the community, and it scares me. I feel lonely. You feel lonely. We feel lonely.
I don't know how to do it, but would it be possible for us to be alone together? Would it be possible to combat this loneliness by coming together? It seems to me that many societal problems could be resolved if we just took the time to reach out to one another. If we just took the time to listen to each other, to talk to each other, and then to be together.
Today, let's take the time to reach out.
